I had the opportunity to design some bookplates for people as gifts. For the uninitiated, bookplates are stickers you put inside books to identify who owns ’em. They often include the words “ex libris”, which is Latin for “from the library of…”. Many of these things are considered works of art in themselves and some were designed by famous artists and engravers like Escher, Dürer, Chagall, Beardsley, Rockwell Kent, and Paul Freakin’ Revere, if you can believe that. Here’s the ones what I done did. Check ’em out:

Anyway, if I ever get to the point of having a gift store on the site, I may do some bookplates to sell. We shall see. I’ll have to run it by the Marketing Department first.

Mudhead has died.

Peter Bergman of the 60s Avant garde comedy troupe The Firesign Theatre has died. These guys helped nurture the imagination of many a chronic daydreamer (and let’s face it, many a chronic stoner too). I started listening to them in 1970-71 when my sister brought home one of their record albums, How Can You Be In Two Places At Once When You’re Not Anywhere At All. She was preparing a theatre monologue, but I got hold of the album and it Blew My Mind (man). They were still touring the west coast and put out a CD of new material as recently as 2001. They were an integral part of my formative years.

So sad.

No, this is not a post about Will Eisner. A friend of mine is opening a distillery, and asked me to devise some characters. Here’s a peek:

I did the color ones on the iPad.

Now I have to figure out how to make a cartoon character out of a gin still.

Another missive in celebration of Halloween. Here’s a pumpkin I did in 2002:

I bite!

It’s that time of year again; the time when the veil between the living and the spirit world is at its thinnest– or so they say.  Ooooo, spooky!

Here’s a pumpkin I carved in 2008. Enjoy.

Boo!
